Ibunga Elikhulu / The Royal Council
The Council of the AbaThembu Nation
A body of senior advisors, elders and custodians who support the King in matters of governance, custom, succession and the welfare of the AbaThembu people.

Role of the Council
The Royal Council, or Ibunga, stands beside the King as the principal advisory body of the AbaThembu Kingdom. Drawing on elders, custodians of custom and representatives from across the Great House and Right Hand House, the Council deliberates on matters affecting the nation and helps translate royal leadership into action across Thembuland.
Meetings of the Council — often convened as an imbizo — bring together traditional leadership, government stakeholders and community representatives to address matters ranging from succession and customary law to development partnerships such as insurance and skills training initiatives for the AbaThembu people.
